SVS Pb vs Sb

The latest SVS 3000 series  consists of a pair of subwoofers - PB-3000 and SB-3000 - in relatively modest cabinets. Unfortunately, I only had to choose one, so I chose the SB-3000. The company's marketing says that the SB-3000's reference level performance has "never been available at this price from a sub of this size". A bold statement, but can it be confirmed?

The genesis of the 3000 series stretches back several years with the introduction of the 16-Ultra series, in which the SVS delivered ultra-high performance in the sub-$2500 subwoofer category and in the process won the Sound & Vision Top Pick award. The 4000 series followed, which featured slightly smaller subwoofers (13.5" vs. 16") and smaller cabinets at a correspondingly lower price. While the move has given customers more choice, $1,500 is a high price tag for most of them. Can the SVS engineers further increase the price and performance of the subwoofer?

As it turns out, yes they could, and with the SB-3000 it did. The new SVS subwoofer measures 15.2 x 15 x 17.8 inches (WxHxD) and weighs 54.5 pounds. The SB-3000 is available in two finishes: black ash or black lacquer with a hard metal grill to protect the front woofer. As the subwoofer enclosure and the subwoofer itself get smaller, the power output below 25Hz decreases, but SVS engineers somehow found a way to make this little beast sub-20Hz expansion along with surprisingly strong output.

The specially designed SB-3000 13" high-speed driver is arguably the best in the company. The new split coil design seems to be the secret ingredient that delivers a big breakthrough in performance. When playing at moderate levels, only the middle part of the reel is used. Then, as the volume gets louder and the need for low frequency expansion increases, the coil expands, allowing you to hear and feel the power of the music or soundtrack. The SB-3000 features a Sledge 800-watt Class-D continuous amplifier with over 2500 watts peak power. Connectivity options include line-in/out, a 12-volt trigger-in, and a port for an SVS wireless adapter (sold separately for $120). There is also a detachable grounded power cable.

The 3000 Series app allows you to adjust the volume and set the low-pass filter, phase, polarity and room gain compensation (a must-have feature for rooms where the lowest frequencies are exaggerated). It also includes a parametric equalizer (PEQ) with settings to set the desired filter frequency (20-200 Hz), increase or decrease the SPL (dB) of the filter band, and adjust the filter bandwidth (Q-factor) to adjust the subwoofer output to suit with a room. There are also three user presets (Cinema, Music and Custom) to store settings for different listening scenarios that can be changed on the fly from the app.SVS Pb vs Sb

My reference system includes four subwoofers that I calibrated with a miniDSP digital room correction processor along with the free Room EQ software. For this review, however, I bypassed the miniDSP and connected the SB-3000 directly to an Anthem AVM-60 preamp/processor, placing it in the middle of my right side wall - one of the best placements in my room.

One advantage of the SB-3000's smaller chassis over some of the company's other models is that it can fit almost anywhere in a room and blend in with its surroundings. To put the dimensions of the SB-3000 in perspective, its body dimensions are 39 percent smaller than the company's SB-4000 and 53 percent smaller than the SB-16 Ultra.

Once installed, I calibrated the output of the SB-3000 with an SPL meter, leaving it for a week and making no adjustments other than keeping the volume at 3 dB as usual. Having lived with several subwoofers for several years, I expected to skip my usual setup, but was surprised to find that if I am not standing and moving around the room, this is not the case with the SB-3000. Sitting in my main listening position, everything sounded fantastic when watching TV programs and occasional movies.

SVS Pb vs Sb

Equalizer is not a problem

Since the SB-3000 does not support a built-in auto-equalizer, I disabled the UMIK-1 USB omnidirectional microphone and the RoomEQ master during my second week of evaluation. My idea was to use objective measurements to see how well the subwoofer is integrated with the room and try to tune the performance using the built in PEQ feature. As expected, I measured a slight dip between 35 and 38 Hz - which I was able to fix in less than five minutes using the PEQ plus 3000 series app. All changes made to the app were instantly recognized, making subwoofer output setup an extremely easy process. .SVS Pb vs Sb

Looking at my measurements, I was most shocked by the subwoofer output from 16Hz to 20Hz. You might expect this range to be weak in a subwoofer of this size, but this was not the case with the SB-3000. The readings certainly matched my experience of watching Ultra HD Blu-ray movies such as Pacific Rim and Hacksaw Ridge, both of which have reference-quality Dolby Atmos soundtracks with copious amounts of LFE. The steps of the characters in Pacific Rim could be felt and heard, and my gender resonated with every step of the giant robots.

In Hacksaw Ridge, I also felt the impact of the 16-inch guns during combat. The performance of the SB-3000 was characterized by extreme low frequency extension, powerful output and transient accuracy. At one point I had to check my wires to make sure I unplugged the other four subwoofers - it was so impressive!

SVS Pb vs Sb

To prepare for Season 8 of Game of Thrones, I watched Season 7 on Blu-ray to reacquaint myself with the land of Westeros. The Atmos soundtrack on these CDs is fantastic and I love Ramin Djawadi's music with its heavy use of cellos. The SB-3000 paired perfectly with my M&K Sound S-150 speaker system: when Daenerys Targaryen led her dragons into battle in the final episode, I could feel every beat of their wings, as well as their fiery breath as they set fire to opponents.

The SB-3000 continued to impress when I switched to music playback. I expected the subwoofer's performance to be well suited for hi-fi use, and it turned out to be just that. Regina Spektor's "Fidelity" has an amazing bass line, hard and clean. With a smaller subwoofer, notes can overhang and confuse the sound. But even at reference levels, the SB-3000 is good - every bass note impresses with power, precision and speed.SVS Pb vs Sb

Conclusion

When the SVS SB-3000 came out I first thought it wouldn't fit in my 5000 cubic foot home theater and I would be forced to evaluate it in my much smaller secondary system. But I turned out to be wrong. I was completely blown away by my experience with the SB-3000, which confirmed the company's claim that it is the most efficient subwoofer of its size.

Priced at $999 for Black Ash and $1,099 for Gloss Black, the SB-3000 is priceless. Throw in a great customization and control app and you'll reap the absolute benefits, no matter what finish you choose.

SVS PB 3000 Subwoofer

SVS Pb vs Sb

Breathtaking bass, well below the line of hearing, yet very precise and full of detail, all at an unbeatable price. To provide excellent bass reference sound, the SVS 3000 series combines the superior technology known from the flagship 16-ultra series subwoofers with innovative solutions. The all-new, 13" long-throw SVS driver with a dual, 11kg toroidalnym motor delivers massive room-filling sound while simultaneously offering you the lowest frequencies with total control and precision. The Sledge STA-800D2 amplifier (800W RMS, 2500+V peak power, MOSFETs) makes it effortless to directly drive a speaker up to the highest levels of membrane tilt,

SB-3000 and PB-3000 have extremely effective tools for sound optimization in the listening room. With skilful use of these equalizers, smaller room resonances can be “ironed out” or any peaks or dips in the frequency response can be compensated for. For effective use purely by ear, however, a little practice with parametric equalizers is required, because without the right measuring equipment it is not easy to find the perfectly fitting values for control frequency, bandwidth of the filter and size of the boost or cut. By the way:SVS Pb vs Sb

 SVS Pb vs Sb

Even quite simple (usually inexpensive) acoustic programs for the smartphone offer a first rough overview of the performance of the woofers in the real listening room. Both the SB-3000 and PB-3000 deliver impressive results in the measurement laboratory. Both models reach a lower limit frequency of around 18 Hertz and offer enormous level reserves. Up to 110 dB (1m) undistorted level is no problem with the SB-3000, the PB-3000 reflex woofer even manages around 3 to 4 dB more. With the PB-3000 in the free-field measurement, a clear peak at 22 Hertz can be recorded, which can be kept in check by using the foam plugs in the reflex tubes, depending on preference or the listening room.

The SB-3000, on the other hand, delivers an almost perfectly balanced frequency response out of the box. In our measurements, we also used two of the built-in equalizers in order to achieve maximum linear frequency response. With these effective tools, both subwoofers achieve excellent results, but with the PB-3000 a stronger use of the equalizer is necessary. In the listening room , both the SB-3000 and the PB-3000 shine with their enormously dynamic and precise playing style , with the smaller SB-3000 particularly shining through its perfect impulse reproduction . The closed SB-3000 delivered crisp bass drum hits with musical material to the point , the PB-3000 also set accents with a little more pressure in the stomach area and a somewhat more relaxed manner. Sound-loaded action films are the actual domain of the two "bass monsters" from SVS. SVS Pb vs Sb

With almost unlimited dynamics , the 290 mm membranes push abysmal sound effects into the listening room andshow no signs of compression or even distortion, even at extreme levels . Especially after a careful calibration in the listening room and with sensitive use of the parametric equalizer, home cinema sound at the highest level is possible with both subwoofers. The respective advantages of both subwoofer variants are subtly but clearly audible: while the PB-3000 is the ultimate level and fun supplier, the SB-3000 is no less powerful, but somewhat more precise and therefore also suitable for hi-fi without restrictions . ."SVS Pb vs Sb

Conclusion

"With the two new subwoofer models SB-3000 and PB-3000, SVS brings absolute reference technology and powerful, dynamic and extremely deep bass into every listening room. Despite their reference properties, both models also fit into smaller budgets and are an extraordinarily exciting alternative one of the absolute top series from SVS. Thanks to fully parametric equalizers and extremely powerful amplifier technology, home cinema and hi-fi enjoyment is guaranteed at the highest level."SVS Pb vs Sb

HSU Vs SVS Subwoofer[Comparison]

HSU VS SVS Subwoofer

HSU Vs SVS Subwoofer

HSU History & Overview

HSU Research was started in 1991 by Dr. Hsu. His goal was to make the best subwoofer in the world. It is clear that he made an impactful contribution to its existence. They made a massive impact on the market when they launched and produced some powerful speakers and subs. Their VTF series, for example, became very popular.

SVS History & Overview

SVS The original mission was to bring quality devices to the market that would challenge overpriced and underperforming “high-end” speakers and subwoofers. They wanted to make immersive sound accessible to all, not just audiophiles with the most expensive equipmentThe company’s growth is evident today, which speaks to its passion for making world-class subwoofers and audio accessories.Although SVS is more prominent, HSU Research and SVS are both well-known in the audio industry.

HSU Sound Quality

HSU has remained true to its original mission over the years – to make the best subwoofers. The subwoofers made by HSU continue to be a success. HSU subs make systems sound amazing in the bass area.HSU subs have superior bass quality than other subs on the market due to their dedication and specialization. The HSU ULS15, for example, is a powerful, rumbling beast.

The Ultra-Linear Sealed Subwoofer line (ULS) is one of the best performing subs on the market.HSU subwoofers can be used for music. The HSU VTF3 MKII is another powerful sub. This subwoofer delivers incredible bass.Another feature worth mentioning is the port flexibility offered by some HSU ported subs. This feature allows you to adjust the output strength or extension according to your preference. This is a great feature that will make your subs sound better.

SVS Sound Quality

The SVS subwoofers can play deep as true subwoofers. All SSV subs perform well in general. Even low-cost subs like the SVS Pb2000.HSU and SVS offer subs that sound great. HSU is a more powerful sub, while SUS plays deeper.

SVS Subwoofer specs

"Pricing"

HSU Pricing

HSU is a small business, but it offers a lot of value for money. The output per dollar of the VTF-3 HP, or even VTF-15H – MK2 subs, will be much greater than that of most SVS subs.

SVS Pricing

SVS does not offer the same value for money as HSU. SVS does have great subs. However, they aren’t as affordable as HSU to provide the same performance. There are many comparable options available at lower prices than SVS. It’s not about brand names but quality. HSU offers excellent value, while SVS is more expensive but provides exceptional value. HSU actually provides the most value for money subs in the industry.

Consider, for instance, two similar subs, the VTF1MK3 and the SVS PB1000. They can be purchased for around $400. The SVS PB1000, on the other hand, will cost you about $500.

"Drivers"

Both SVS and HSU offer drivers of exceptional quality. We will compare 12″ drivers.

HSU Drivers

HSU drivers are known for their high-quality sound and incredible bass. For example, take the HSU Research PF-12100LP.

This driver is a great choice and can produce some serious power. These drivers require a small enclosure. This is a great advantage. These drivers are great for a small car or home theater system.

SVS Drivers

SVS’s most talented drivers are the PB12 Ultra/2. These drivers are excellent and offer exceptional quality. You won’t experience the same low distortion as XBL2 technology.

"Subwoofer Design, Size, and Build Quality"

Subwoofers are essential because of their size, design, and build quality. Subs are often large, and therefore placement is necessary. Sound quality is also affected by design.

HSU Design, Size, and Build Quality

Simply put, HSU builds quality is solid. The subs are of the same quality as custom-built options.

This type of craftsmanship is built to last, so you won’t get the modern, sleek design many people love.

HSU subs are more vintage-looking than most. HSU subs are often large, but their drivers don’t have to be too big.

SVS Size, Design, and Build Quality

SVS subwoofers are sleek and can compete with modern subs in design quality. These subwoofers have excellent design and are made from high-quality materials.

"Room Fillings Bass"

A sub must be able to move and pressurize large volumes of air in order to fill an ample space with bass.

HSU Subs & Room Size

HSU has more giant subs than SVS. These subs are more powerful and can fill larger rooms better. HSU 15” subwoofers, for example, are great at filling large rooms. The HSU allows you to change the subwoofer’s response by plugging in one port, changing Q values, or changing the EQ value. To increase headroom, let’s say that you set EQ2 to have both ports open. The sub will be louder but not as deep.

SVS Subs and Room Size

SVS subwoofers provide incredible value for money. They can fill large rooms with bass if you need to apply pressure.

SVS is an excellent option if you are looking to reduce the number of subs in your room without having to experiment with too many placement options.

SVS SB 2000 Pro VS SB 3000 Subwoofer[Comparison and all Specs]

SVS SB 2000 pro vs SB 3000 Subwoofer

Both the SVS SB-2000 Pro and SB-3000 subwoofers are relatively compact subwoofers with serious output.(click here to feel the difference)

The SB-2000 Pro features a 12-inch driver with 550 Watts RMS, 1,500+ Watts peak power Sledge amplifier with fully discrete MOSFET output, and SVS subwoofer DSP smartphone app in a compact cabinet measuring roughly 15-inches on all sides.

The SB-3000 features an all-new first ever 13-inch high-excursion SVS driver and 800 watts RMS, 2,500+ watts peak power Sledge amplifier with fully discrete MOSFET output. Its deep and thunderous low frequency output with revealing clarity and flawless tonal accuracy delights hardcore audiophiles and home theater fans alike. Measuring just over 15-inches cubed, the SB-3000 outperforms much larger subwoofers and takes command of a room sonically without taking over visually.

SVS SB 2000 pro and SB 3000 Subwoofer comparison

They both feature SVS’ built-in DSP with Bluetooth integration. This feature allows you to use an app from your phone - from the comfort of your seated position - to control volume, adjust settings such as high-pass filter, phase, 3-bands of Parametric EQ and other features. I really, really love this feature and it is, in my humble opinion, something that sets the SVS line apart from other subwoofers.

SVS SB 2000 pro vs SB 3000 Subwoofer specs

Another “feature” about SVS is their longstanding customer service marks, 5-year warranty and 45-day return “risk-free in-home trial”.

 Prices:

The price for each varies depending on finish. I tested the gloss white SB-2000 Pro and the gloss black SB-3000. I have listed the prices (as of this review) below:

SB-2000 Pro: $799 (black ash), $899 (gloss)

SB-3000: $999 (black ash), $1099 (gloss)

Frequency Response:

The below frequency responses were taken with all DSP options disabled, volume at maximum and 0.05v RMS input in to the LFE channel. You can see the SB-2000 Pro has a more linear frequency response while the SB-3000 has a rise in the higher-frequency response until approximately 160Hz where both subwoofers begin to trail off.

SVS SB 2000 pro specs
SVS SB 2000 Pro

Room Gain Compensation:

The below provides an idea of how the integrated DSP’s “room gain compensation” feature works. As you can see, depending on the chosen frequency, the low-frequency response is rolled off earlier than the subwoofer naturally rolls off. This might be ideal for those who have a very small room and get exaggerated bass or have neighbors who they do not want to bother with very low frequency effects.

SVS SB 3000 Pro frequency
SVS SB 3000 Pro

Parting / Random Thoughts:

At only $200 more, the SB-3000 represents the better value, in my humble opinion. It isn’t much larger than the SB-2000 Pro and it has considerably more output capability. However, the SB-3000 might be overkill for most. My living room (which is where I demoed these subwoofers) is about 20x20 feet but is open to the kitchen, the dining room and the hallway.

So, effectively, my living room is considerably larger than the dimensions indicate. Still, I found the SB-2000 Pro to be ample for music listening in my room, as there is a room mode that boosts the response about 6dB at 30Hz. For movies with LFE below 25Hz, though, the SB-3000 proved more useful. So, it really is up to you as to what makes the most sense.

If you do want very LFE and/or you don’t have the benefit of room gain (large room or bad placement), then the SB-3000 is the better option. If you have a smaller room and/or you don’t need very low frequency output then the SB-2000 Pro will be just fine. And, remember, 2 subs are always better than one. So, it might even make more sense to purchase two of the SB-2000 Pro (if it is within your budget).

With the variety of DSP features in these subwoofers, there really is no reason why someone could not get a very nice response in their listening position. I highly recommend you taking the time to download Room EQ Wizard and using the MiniDSP UMIK-1 (or UMIK-2) in order to help you match the subwoofer(s) to the main speakers.

The built-in Bluetooth of these subwoofers in conjunction with the BT app (for iPhone and Android) makes it incredibly easy to dial in the sound to your liking.

Even from the comfort of your couch. Which means no getting up from your seat and going back and forth between the amp and your seat to get the sound just right. This is a feature that is incredibly useful. That said, some users may prefer to use a room correction program such as Dirac Live which then diminishes the need for the built-in DSP of the SVS subwoofers.

There was no audible mechanical resonance and no indication of this in the data.

I was quite impressed with both subwoofers and would recommend them to anyone in the market for a subwoofer with plenty of output down to 30Hz. And with room gain, these should be able to satisfy most listener’s needs. If you need ultra-low output, though, then you may want to consider a larger woofer and/or ported design.

The 1000 Pro subwoofer series of the American company SVS, which replaced the usual thousandth, has so far included only two models: SB-1000 and PB-1000 . The first is in a closed case, the second is in a phase inverter (two ports). Otherwise, they are practically twins.

The 12-inch long-throw speaker of the new "thousandths" received a fiber composite cone with a parabolic suspension. The driver is equipped with a double ferrite magnet and a double-layer voice coil.

Both 1000 Pro models feature the Sledge STA-325D amplifier. It combines the high output current of discrete MOSFETs with class D energy efficiency. Its 325W RMS power can peak at 820W or slightly more.

The signal to the amplifier is processed by a 50 MHz Analog Devices audio processor with 56-bit filtering, which SVS described in a press release as "the most advanced DSP available in a home subwoofer."svs sb 1000 pro vs pb 1000 pro

The SB-1000 and PB-1000 cases received additional inserts made of high-strength plastic and non-resonant elastomer feet. Both subwoofers can be covered with a solid fabric grill.

SVS SB 1000 PRO

The SVS SB 1000 Pro subwoofer is based on the powerful Sledge STA-325D amplifier, the output stages of which are made on MOSFETs capable of providing high output current. The amplifier delivers 325 watts of continuous power peaking up to 820 watts with low distortion. Signal processing uses a 50MHz DSP from Analog Devices with 56-bit filtering. Its processing power guarantees impeccable sound quality adapted to the acoustic characteristics of the room.

The drivers in the SVS 1000 Pro subwoofers were developed almost from scratch for the series. The driver design uses a double ferrite magnet and a parabolic suspension of a long-throw aluminum cone to achieve high sound pressure in the listening room. with a long range for extreme walks with increased indoor pressure.svs sb 1000 pro vs pb 1000 pro

When the enclosed subwoofer is equipped with a powerful amplifier and a quality driver, you can expect deep and clear bass. But only if such a system is properly managed. To meet this challenge, the SVS SB-1000 Pro is equipped with a powerful DSP that can be controlled via iOS or Android apps. It has all the settings you need to get the best bass sound from your subwoofer.

Subwoofer SVS SB-1000 can be called universal simply based on its specification. A 12-inch speaker and 300 watts of power allow it to be used in rooms of different sizes, and if we are talking about a larger cinema, you can simply increase the number of subwoofers - bass depth is enough for a movie. Another obvious and important fact is the size of the model. A cube with a face length of 34 cm is a very compact size for a powerful subwoofer operating from 24 Hz. It is easy to calculate that 34 cm is approximately 13 inches, respectively, a 12-inch caliber speaker occupies almost the entire area of the front panel. In addition, it is long-stroke, which allows you to provide a large sound pressure.

An important point: a large working stroke is usually given to small-sized speakers operating in a bass-reflex enclosure. Whereas large radiators (and 12 inches is already a rather large driver) in a closed acoustic design are traditionally made short-throw for better bass control. In this case, the manufacturers clearly had the task of combining high efficiency with small dimensions, so we have an atypical hybrid. In this scenario, the main thing is not to lose the advantages of both approaches.

Minimizing distortion in the SVS SB 1000 Pro transducer is ensured by two powerful high-end ferrite magnets, a magnetic system with a field in the gap, a long voice coil and a rubber surround with a large amplitude of movement. To reduce compression in the magnetic system, a through hole was made to remove air from under the central part of the diffuser.svs sb 1000 pro vs pb 1000 pro

The built-in Sledge STA-325D amplifier operates in class D and delivers 325 watts in operation and over 800 watts at peak. It has a built-in digital processor that matches the speaker to the cabinet and helps achieve a linear output response. The volume, frequency and phase controls look and function in a digital dimension. The SVS SB 1000 Pro has a full set of inputs: stereo low-level, as well as LFE, combined with low-level. There is also a stereo low-level output with a fixed cutoff frequency of 80 Hz. The latter will allow you to "unload" the power amplifier without a processor in the system.

The SVS SB 1000 Pro subwoofer has a switchable auto-standby system and a trigger input for integration into an automation system. Standby power consumption is 0.5 W, so it is not necessary to completely power off the system each time. The heavy and durable subwoofer cabinet looks neat and compact. Thanks to the rounded edges of the body and the rounded grill, it does not attract attention and imperceptibly dissolves into the interior. The only thing that betrays its presence in a darkened room is a bright blue LED shining through the fabric of the grill. The grill is firmly attached to the body.

Conclusion
I enjoyed my time listening with the SVS SB-1000 and PB-1000 Pro subwoofers and would easily recommend either model to anyone looking to get good bass on a budget. The harder choice will come down to which one to go with. If you're a movie fan and don't have space constraints, go for the PB-1000 Pro and get that extra bit of extension. If space constraints or SAF is an issue, check out the SB-1000 Pro. The build quality of both is impeccable and getting to control them wirelessly using the best-in-class SVS app is a very impressive extra feature in an affordable, entry-level subwoofer.

On the SVS website, the SB-1000 Pro subwoofer starts at $600 and the PB-1000 Pro starts at $700.

SVS 3000 Micro subwoofer Review

SVS 3000 Micro subwoofer review

SVS 3000 Micro subwoofer review

Description

Since launching in the late 1990s, American company SVS has developed a character for home cinema subwoofers that blend high performance with bargain price markers. And the 3000 Micro, its diminutive model yet and priced£ 900, continues that trend.

First however, I will admit that the idea of a compact subwoofer, specifically designed to take up lower bottom space than a traditional model and thus be more suited to installation in a living room or gaming den, does not relatively fit my image of the SVS brand. This, after all, is the company that sells 16in ported subwoofers that nearly bear a forklift truck, perpendicular- standing cylinder models nearly a metre high, and'Ultra Tower'floorstanding loudspeakers that make no attempt to hide their megalith-from-2001 style.

Yet, actually, SVS's cylinder subwoofer models, similar as its PC-2000, are evidence that the brand puts some allowed into the apartments its products will end up in. So perhaps I should not be surprised it's been stunk by the compact bug. Company present Gary Yacoubian indeed sees it as a noble bid, telling me' Maybe it could open up the world of great bass to further people.'

Build

The 3000 Micro, as the name indicates, is part of SVS's 3000 Series. This means it shares the same 800W Sledge DSP amplifier unit as the SB-3000 and PB-3000 models. Only then it's used to power lower motorists, in a lower press, at a lower price.

The new motorists are 8in aluminium cone designs, mounted on reversed surrounds to boost excursion eventuality. They are connected in resemblant to the sub's singular amplifier, a configuration that SVS says means they admit the same quantum of current'to insure precisely controlled and imaged operation.'

As announced, the 3000 Micro really is rather small, just 27 cm deep and only a toucher high and wider. It sits on a quintet of small rubber bases and limits design indications to just a modest'SVS' emblem.

Finish options include piano buff white, which Yacoubian reveals is further of a bribe to the European request than the company's native US. There is no price decoration for it, so clearly give it consideration, but I'd be impeccably happy with the luxurious piano buff black dressing of our review sample. There is no sign of SVS's traditionally more affordable (and lower agreeable) black ash finish.

SVS 3000 Micro subwoofer review

Micro machines

Now, if you are getting a sense of deja vu, I do not condemn you. We lately looked at KEF's KC62, a fellow binary-opposed sealed subwoofer with a miniaturized design. It's tempting to consider them as direct rivals, but I'd argue that is really not the case, because while the KEF model is vastly further swish and indeed more compact (by virtue of its lapping voice-coil technology), it's some£ 500 more precious. They're different nags for different courses.

As with all of SVS's current subwoofers ( following the recent appearance of the 1000 Series Pro range), the 3000 Micro can be controlled via smartphone app. This connects to the subwoofer via Bluetooth, rather than Wi-Fi, which probably makes for a hastily setup.

Numerous will have little or no need to do anything with this app beyond maybe conforming volume if their AVR handset has gone walkies, and conforming the woofer's phase during original setup. Yet for the further experimental/ knowledgeable, there is some intriguing stuff then, including Movie and Music preset modes; a parametric EQ tool with three stoner places (and a neat, visual representation of the response changes your cutlet gates will bring); and Room Gain Compensation point (which covers 25Hz,31.5 Hz and 40Hz, enabling you to smooth affair at a targeted frequence that your room confines have a problem with). The app itself is veritably responsive, and includes pop-up tutorials to describe what each point does.

Sonically appealing

After spending a week with this woofer, one thing was egregious it performs veritably much like SVS's more regular models. Slam, depth, and affair all beguile. The pursuit of a tidy form factor hasn't redounded in egregious concession.

Using the Bluetooth app to make an easy volume tweak – after my AVR claimed during setup on going below my favored hooligan position – I was soon feeling battered and bruised by the performance of this cute cell. The trace chase sequence in Sonic The Hedgehog (4K Blu- shaft) plant the 3000 Micro happily throwing its weight around. The machine ofDr. Robotnik's armoured truck has a throaty scowl, but under there are important deeper notes that signify the vehicle's power and size. The soundtrack thumps ominously, and when the dart crashes through the auto window it slams into the SatNav with a tight, sharp thud.

Latterly, during the film's apocalyptic road battle between old spiky and Robotnik, the sound of the hovercraft's thruster, and the low- frequence swell when Sonic smashes into it, hit with astounding volume and weight, before easily decaying.

I dug out Ready Player One (4K Blu- shaft) and its race sequence. This did punctuate the limits of the SVS's low- end extension (it's rated down to 23Hz) as the footfalls of first the T-rex and also King Kong missed out on the scale and depth that I have heard on larger subs – but for a£ 900 woofer intended for small surroundings, it's hardly lacking. Meanwhile, its running of theM.U.T.O-by-the- ground sequence in Godzilla (2014, Blu- shaft) was thrilling – a smorgasbord of low-andmid-bass goods and snaps that stopped and started, rose and fell, with pleasurable perfection.

During quieter, more thoughtful chow, the 3000 Micro does not just shut up shop. With the Dolby Atmos blend of Promising Young Woman (Sky Cinema) it demanded to show a lighter, more nuanced touch, adding an easy-does-it sense of air ( including the background music of the cafĂ© and coffee shop scenes), and helping the film's oddball soundtrack hit new lows. Its upper- range bass performance felt spot-on – rich and textured. And also the sound platoon throw in a huge, room- rattling LF grumble when Cassie arrives at the bachelorette party, and I realised my AVR was right each on and had to dip the volume a bit.

SVS no doubt wants hi-fi suckers to enter the world of subwoofers, and the invisible 3000 Micro is an egregious implicit mate for a stereo loudspeaker brace. With Michael Jackson's Beat It (Tidal Master), it invested the kick drums with a lovely sense of physicality, and bounced along tunefully to the track's iconic bassline. I dutifully switched to the sub's Music preset for two- channel listening, and the effect of its acclimated response, in my room, was a minor but welcome fresh position of bassline body.

SVS 3000 Micro subwoofer review

Importing up

Ultimately, just as with KEF's KC62, interested parties will have to weigh up the benefits of the 3000 Micro's size and styling, versus its price and performance. SVS itself sells a range of larger models that go deeper and stay louder, and pack the same connections and slick control options. Maybe this model's biggest rival is SVS's own single 12in- motorist SB-2000 Pro, which sells for the exact same price and has further implicit to range below 20Hz.

Judged entirely on its own, still, this can be considered a first- rate woofer, mixing a veritably high- quality finish with customisation eventuality and a performance that only a total bass- head wouldn't love.
