Bang & Olufsen celebrates the tenth anniversary of Beoplay A9 with limited edition covers

Bang & Olufsen is pleased to announce “Art of the A9” to celebrate the Beoplay A9 speaker, reimagined by creatives for its tenth anniversary.

Ten years ago, Bang & Olufsen and Øivind Alexander Slaatto designed Beoplay A9 to be a timeless classic. A decade later it remains one of the most loved products in the company’s portfolio. Not only is this a testament to the iconic stature of Beoplay A9, but also the emotional durability of Bang & Olufsen’s products.

For this celebration, Bang & Olufsen has commissioned a series of designs by leading creatives working across the fields of art, design, and music to customize the canvas cover of Beoplay A9 in their own inimitable style to create a series of highly limited-edition cover artworks.

The visual artists creating some of the first Art of the A9 covers are Alexis Jamet and Manon Cezaro. Paris-based graphic designer and artist Alexis Jamet uses the shapes of nature as the source material for his abstract digital forms, often using digital airbrush tools to produce interesting effects whilst exploring the boundary between the figurative and the abstract.

For the Art of the A9 project, he created an original artwork inspired by the speaker itself. “I wanted to play with the vocabulary of music, using symbols and reinterpreting them using the codes in which I work, presenting them as an abstract landscape”, Jamet explains.

A multi-disciplinary artist based in Paris, Manon Cezaro combines photography, painting and sculpture to create digital images inspired by nature. “I take a lot of pictures of what I see around me, particularly flowers and landscapes, but then I use them as source material in my drawings to create new forms,” she explains.

For her Art of the A9 design, Cezaro developed a new technique of using 3D shapes created in plaster before scanning them to create new digital images. Cezaro’s A9 design has been created to work in conjunction with Alexis Jamet. “It’s a continuity of what we do usually, our styles often coincide even when we don’t work together on the same image”, says Cezaro.
