Not only Mufasa and Scar.

Mufasa: The Lion King director Barry Jenkins has shared fresh details about the film. The director promised cool musical numbers and said that many of the characters from The Lion King 2019 would return.

Mufasa: The Lion King will tell the backstory of Mufasa and his brother Scar, who killed him in The Lion King. The film will reveal new details about the relationship of the characters and show how Mufasa became king. However, not only Mufasa and Scar will return to the tape.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Moonlight's Barry Jenkins revealed that Mufasa: The Lion King is not a full prequel. According to the director, the film will show the events of both the past and the present. In doing so, other younger characters from the original film will also appear:

“I think you will see a lot of familiar faces. It's a prequel in the sense that it will still be the same characters, but we'll tell you how they got to where they are. We are literally moving backwards. We are going back in time with many of these characters. We're also staying in the present, but we're also looking into the past to tell who these characters were."

Jenkins added that Mufasa: The Lion King will feature musical numbers. According to him, the audience is waiting for just wonderful musical scenes.

It is already known that Simba, Timon, Pumbaa and Rafiki will definitely return in Mufasa: The Lion King. In the story, Timon, Pumbaa and Rafiki will tell adult Simba the life story of his father Mufasa. In The Lion King, Simba himself became a king, so he will be interested to know what kind of ruler his father was.

Disney's Mufasa: The Lion King is set to release on July 5, 2024.
