"A life's quest - the Contendo II Horn speaker system is realized" (Aries-Cerat)

Aries Cerat Contendo Reference Overview

Four-way horn speaker with active subwoofer section. A model that embodies uncompromising solutions in the field of horn design of radiators based on careful optimization of the geometry of the horns and their successful combination with specific radiators.

The HF section uses a custom-made ribbon radiator, the movable system of which (aluminum foil) is only 7 g. The matching transformers for connecting the radiator are wound with silver wire on amorphous iron cores. The emitter, capable of operating up to a frequency of 100 kHz, is loaded on a short horn with an opening in the form of a tractrix, which has a wide and uniform radiation pattern in the absence of diffraction.

The bullet-shaped horn of the mid-range section (700 - 3000 Hz) is made of multilayer poplar plywood, has a tractrix-shaped opening and a wide and uniform directivity. The 102 mm dynamic driver with a titanium cone is equipped with a powerful magnet system weighing 11 kg. The matching transformer with switchable taps of the secondary winding makes it possible to adjust the speakers to the acoustics of a real room.

The bass section in the form of a ball with a diameter of 105 cm is also horn (tractrix) and operates from 110 to 700 Hz. It uses a lightweight 203 mm dynamic head with a moving system weight of only 13 g.

The freestanding active subwoofer section includes 2 x 381mm dynamic drivers with 34mm of travel in closed box acoustic design. It is powered by a powerful (400 W) class D amplifier in a separate housing, which also houses the filters of the 6S19P tube crossover, using high-quality passive components (capacitors with copper foil and polystyrene and Teflon dielectric.
